Imagine that you are a doctor who develops an incapacitating autoimmune disease that makes you doubt your internal medicine education and inspires you to embrace integrative and functional medicine ideas, which ultimately help you to access your body’s intrinsic ability to heal. Through the healing process, you develop as a scientist who studies cutting-edge science, Qigong, ancient healing techniques, and the power of intuition to help other suffering people find the insight and compassion to start their own healing processes and journeys from illness to wellness.

This is the truly amazing story of Dr. Cynthia Li.

What is Qigong, and What Are its Benefits?

The practice of qigong, pronounced “chi gong,” was created thousands of years ago in China as a component of traditional Chinese medicine. Exercises are used to maximize the body’s, mind’s, and spirit’s energy with the aim of enhancing and sustaining health and wellbeing. Qigong involves controlling the mind, breath, and body’s movement and posture. It has both psychological and physical components.

Qigong facilitates the opening of energy channels. It strengthens our connection to and awareness of the Life Force that underlies the physical universe. Physically, slow, gentle qigong motions tone essential organs and connective tissue, warm tendons, ligaments, and muscles, and encourage the circulation of bodily fluids (blood, synovial, lymph). Numerous studies have demonstrated that qigong helps overcome various life problems, including high blood pressure, chronic sickness, emotional resentment, mental stress, and spiritual crises.

Healing is balancing, So many things today are out of balance in our lives. And thatโ€™s why we experience chronic disease. So if we continue to stay in that state, we continue to stay imbalanced.

More From My Interview With Dr. Cynthial Li On Intuitive Healing and Qigong

I asked Dr. Li how Qigong promotes intuitive healing.

Brave New Medicine by Dr. Cynthia Li for Passion Struck podcast recommended book list

Dr. Cynthia Li explains, “A simple way to answer that is that so first off, there are studies now that have looked at people who are practicing Qigong and Tai Chi, they usually do those two together, where there are measurable improvements, not just by surveys of their well being, but they’re looking at markers, for example of the immune system.

And the immune system actually has a measurable improvement after a 30-minute practice of Tai Chi and Chi Gong. So we know that changes are happening quite rapidly in the body, just through a 30-minute practice, and that those changes are happening through the mechanisms of epigenetics and neuroplasticity. So the brain sends different signals to the body and our cells. And the information is also changing how our DNA is expressed,

So different genes turn on and off based on the information we give them. So food is information. Our community is information. Our environment and the chemicals are information. Our movement is information. So they’re information, and they’re also energy. So if we just look at that essential level, it boils down to what information we feed our bodies.

So Qigong is actually all of the above. It’s a movement, and it’s a conscious practice. It changes the way we relate to our communities. It is multipronged. If we’re looking at it from that level, we know that those things already affect epigenetics, where the turning on and off of different genes.

Qigong is working at that level because Qigong is already doing all of those things. And then, at another level, I think it’s just beyond measure. So the benefit is actually, yeah, something that we’re not yet able to measure or explain.”
