Astronaut Kayla Barron on: How to Be the Best Version of Yourself
Journey to becoming part of the NASA Artemis program

Kayla Barron sits down with John R. Miles to talk about how to be the best version of yourself. We all need to learn to act with vulnerability and authenticity in every step we take in our life, to form strong bonds with others by acting with humility, and to permit ourselves to dream the dream we have for our lives.

“Studying whether there’s life on Mars or studying how the universe began, there’s something magical about pushing back the frontiers of knowledge.”

Sally Ride

How to Be the Best Version of Yourself

To be the best version of yourself is doing the hard work that is necessary for you to achieve your full capabilities. It is becoming passion-struck and unleashing your full creativity and leadership abilities. When we become the best version of ourselves, it means becoming our ultimate self.

And, as simple as that sounds, it’s anything but. Authentic self-discovery requires us to face our fears, step into our sharp edges and do things every day that scares us. To approach your authentic self requires that you move away from self-limiting beliefs and embrace a growth mindset that is focused on being the best that you can become.

“It’s super important to have that awareness that you’re not perfect and that you have things you need to work on.”

Astronaut Kayla Barron describes how being an astronaut is the best thing she could be doing with her life. But, this wasn’t always her life goal. She decided to apply after meeting astronaut Kathryn Hire while the Flag Officer for VADM Ted Carter, then Superintendent of the Naval Academy.

Kayla is part of the NASA Artemis generation of astronauts, which is NASA’s return to the moon. This group was handpicked to fly initially to the international space station and, more importantly, to focus on space exploration and using the moon as a proving ground for Mars.
